Proprietor of Baptist Academy Kano, Rev Armstrong Ajayi has urged parents to allow their children to go for the courses of their choice and desist from forcing them to offer courses they dislike.

Rev Ajayi, gave the counsel at the graduation ceremony of the academy held on the school premises as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the school.

According to him “Baptist Academy, Kano, was founded in 1965, so this year’s graduation marked the diamond jubilee of the school, drawing people from all walks of life to join the academy in marking 60 years of nurturing excellence, character and future leaders.”

He averred that children will definitely fulfil their purpose in life and that parents are only expected to guide them in making right choices with keen considerations on their areas of interest and giftedness.”

He then noted that “ the school school is blessed with qualified teachers in different disciplines, with  a specialist as the school counsellor coupled a conducive environment that will be of help towards bringing into reality the dreams and aspirations of learners.”

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Ponle Okunola, who is a senior lecturer at the Yusuf Maitama University of Education, Kano, also warned parents to avoid forcing their children to do courses that are against their wish.

According to Dr Okunola, “doing so can demoralise a child and such a child may end up not performing well academically.”

Some parents and students at the graduation ceremony described Baptist Academy, Kano, as one of the best schools where children can be enrolled for holistic learning that covers academic, character and spiritual formation.
