The people of Aba Ajao community in Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State, erupted in joy on Thursday, last week as Allet Feed Mills Limited inaugurated a borehole project to ease the community’s long struggle for clean water.
The event, attended by residents, community leaders and the Baale of Aba Ajao, Chief Adepoju Adeagbo Ajao, marked the company’s first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) intervention in the area.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Olarenwaju Popoola, who led his management team to the inauguration, said the project was a way of giving back to the host community. He explained that while the borehole was a start, the company had lined up more interventions, including employment opportunities, school improvement and scholarships for children within the community.
“The reason behind this project is a fulfilment of our CSR, but more importantly, it is about impacting the community where we are located. Improving schools is our next agenda, and we are also working on scholarship plans that will take off within the next one year,” Popoola said.
In his response, Baale Aba-Ajao thanked the company for its generosity, describing the donation as life-saving, just as he assured that the community will maintain the facility while also appealing for additional support in areas such as school infrastructure and solar streetlights to safeguard the borehole.
“This borehole has brought us relief because clean water means good health. We are happy and grateful, but like Oliver Twist, we still ask for more, especially in improving our schools and providing streetlights for security,” the Baale said.
He also called on other companies within the local council to emulate Allet Feed Mills by undertaking meaningful projects that will uplift rural communities.
The ceremony ended with residents joyfully fetching water from the new facility, which they described as a turning point for the community’s well-being.
