The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed the resolution of a technical glitch that affected the recent release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, reassuring the public of its commitment to maintaining the integrity of national examinations.
He gave the assurance in a press release via the ministry’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The ministry explained that the issue occurred during post-release processing, particularly in subjects where paper serialisation had been introduced as part of the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) exams to enhance security measures.
It noted that the issue was immediately addressed following a full briefing of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa.
Commending WAEC for its swift response, transparency, and professionalism, the ministry disclosed that the updated results will be accessible on the result checker portal within 24 hours.
It then thanked candidates for their patience and reaffirmed its “continued pursuit of fairness and credibility in assessment processes.
According to the ministry, the development prioritises examination integrity under its supervision of WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO), which also aligns with Dr Alausa’s broader education reform agenda. Therefore, as a part of these reforms, both bodies will begin a rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in November 2026, starting with objective test components.”

The ministry emphasised the adoption of CBT as a critical step toward curbing malpractice, preventing leaks, and restoring public confidence in the examination process, stressing that it is a necessary reform to ensure that Nigerian students are assessed strictly on merit, as this would ensure their certificates remain credible both locally and internationally.
Dr Alausa noted the importance of safeguarding the integrity of education, and stated that it would go on to sustain the global reputation of Nigeria in regards to academic excellence.
