A prince of the Oyo kingdom, Prince Kolade Afeez Siyanbola Ladigbolu has commended the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade.
According to Prince Afeez, “this is the kind of Alaafin, Oyo deserves. People should embrace and rally around him. His reign would be prosperous to Oyo town and the entire yoruba-land. The medical equipment worth millions of naira donated by a monarch who has not even spent two months on the stool shows he has a fantastic plan for our dear town.”
The real estate tycoon and a prince of Oyo further explained that the fact that he wasn’t chosen as the new alaafin doesn’t make the selected candidate (Oba Owoade) his opposition.
Ladigbolu said: “There’s no opposition in royal homes, except where there is no peace.
In those days, if someone contested to be a king and lost the seat to another prince, such a person would have to leave the town for peace to reign. But that was in iron age. We are now in the intercontinental world. No man born of a woman can stop me from coming to an ancient town founded by my father. I contested to be alaafin and I wasn’t chosen, that doesn’t change who I am. I remain the grandson of the second longest reigning Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Siyanbola Ladigbolu. If I don’t get to the throne now, my sons would be there one day.
“It is on record for life that I, Prince Kolade Afeez Siyanbola Ladigbolu contested to be alaafin, its all over nigeria media houses. Other contenders, including Kààbiyesi himself, can not dispute the fact that it got to a point some people thought I was already selected as the alaafin due to my historical facts and figures I released to the media. But God Almighty still took His decision. It was painful, though due to my investments in it, but it is well. Life goes on. However, the only thing that would have probably landed me in everlasting sorrow is if it had been one “DÒDÒYÒ”who became the Alaafin. But thank God for the emergence of Oba Owoade, which is the type of personality I expected to be on the throne. He is my cousin, and of course, my grandfather, Alaafin Ladigbolu, paved the way for his emergence. That’s not a new story to anyone in Oyo. Oba Owoade’s father (bààmi Aremo Owoade) was a younger brother to my own grandfather, who was Alaafin of Oyo from 1911-1944, Oba Ladigbolu, who was supposed to present his own son as Aremo but did not do so. He made his younger brother the Aremo, and that is the grandfather of the present Alaafin (Oba Owoade). As you can see, blood is thicker than water. If it were in the olden days, I would have insisted that Oba Akeem Abimbola should emulate my grandfather by making me the Aremo because that was the same avenue that paved the way for his emergence.
“The bottom line is that I will work hand-in-hand with Kààbiyesi, and that is if he wants it to happen that way. After all, Áyé ómóóba tí tó míí jé. Very soon, Kààbiyesi, Oba Owoade will be proud of me when he sees my name on Forbes’ record of younger generations reshaping the Africa continent in all ramifications. Let those going to court advise themselves, no court will remove Alaafin for anyone. Alaafin is supreme. Go and focus on your businesses, Owoade tí J’óbá!”
