THE Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has appealed to workers of the six state-owned tertiary institutions in Oyo State to, in the interest of peace and tranquility, suspend their plan to occupy the Oyo State government secretariat over their unpaid salaries.
The traditional ruler made the appeal when the workers visited him in his palace to solicit for his intervention.
He commended the workers for considering him worthy of intervening in the matter, saying if they had gone ahead to occupy the secretariat in Ibadan without exploring all available avenues, they might not get the desired result.
Having listened to the workers through their spokesperson, chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the five trade unions (ASUP, COEASU, NASU, SSANIP AND SSUCOEN), Mr Adeniyi Babatunde Afees, Oba Adeyemi, after due consultations with the Oyomesi, the supreme advisory body in Oyo kingdom, put a call through to the governor and informed the workers that he and the governor would meet on the matter.
Oba Adeyemi urged the workers to always toe the path of caution and peace even when fighting for their right.
