
GOVERNOR Umaru Al-makura of Nasarawa state has affirmed that the State is fully in support of the Federal government’s proposed ranching system, and has offered seven grazing reserves for the take up of the programme.
The Governor, who revealed this in a statement issued by Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Hassan Abdulahi, made available to Tribune Online at the weekend, describing ranching as a vital proactive step taken by the FG toward finding lasting solution to the lingering farmers/ herders crisis.
Accordingly, “I wish to affirm that Nasarawa State is completely in support of the Federal government’s initiative and our state is willing and available to provide all resources and support to ensure the success of the ranching effort adopted by the Federal government because we see this as an important proactive step towards assuaging and finding a lasting solution to the age-old challenge of farmer-herder conflict which has been with us from time immemorial.
“In view of this laudable Initiative of the Federal Government, the Nasarawa State Government has keyed into the programme and His Excellency, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, Governor of Nasarawa State has approved the utilization of all the seven (7) gazetted grazing reserves of the State, located at Awe, Keana, Dorna, Assakio, Konva, Gtata and Kurudu for the purposes of the ranching programme In Nasarawa State.” The statement reiterated.

He further directed Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, Local Government Councils and communities where these grazing reserves are located to give their necessary support and cooperation for the successful implementation of the programme in their respective areas.
Added that “Federal Government of Nigeria has taken far-reaching measures in this regard, which include reactivation and further development of existing grazing reserves and provision of model ranch across the country”
