
GOVERNOR Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa state frowned at some residents of the state who butchered sick animals that are detrimental to human health.
The perpetrators who usually commit the act at wee hours of the day, distributing it to various meat sellers who in turn sell to innocent consumers.
The Governor registered his grievances while reacting to a speech delivered by the commissioner for Agriculture, Jameer Zakari, at the occasion of launching ceremony of the 2018 sales of fertilizer to farmers in Kwndere Lafia, said the consumption of unchecked beef meat evidence to dangerous diseases being experienced these days.

“It is on the unwholesome practice of people killing sick animals and selling it to consumers, the health hazard is undoubted.
“Fifty per cent of the disease in humans are from sick animals, cows, chickens, goats among other animals.
“People went there in the night around 3 to 4 am to butcher sick and dead animals, the act which is criminal and condemnable, others used dangerous chemicals to hunt fish in river and streams,” Zakari stressed.
Launching this year fertilizer, the Governor said state government has procured 150 trucks from different plants across the nation to help farmers in the state to cultivate their farms without stress, adding that the soil which lost its fertility, hence the need to replenish it by way of applying fertilizer.
He affirmed that this would be the last time state would procure fertilizer outside the state, as plans on ground to fixed the fertilizer blending company in Lafia, Keffi and Akwanga LGAs respectively.
He added that each bag of the fertilizer is sold at the rate of N4000 directly to the farmer.
