…promote new DSPs
Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disbursed a total of ₦46,995,139.32 to families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, even as it decorated a fresh batch of newly promoted senior officers. The support for police and fallen officers is vital in recognising their service and sacrifice.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, who made the presentation at the State Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, said the fund was released under the Group Life and IGP Family Welfare Schemes, initiatives meant to honour both police and fallen officers, as initiated by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
According to him, the payment represents the Force’s recognition of the sacrifices of its personnel and a commitment to stand by their families in times of need. Supporting families of police and those of fallen officers demonstrates the Force’s commitment.

“The Nigeria Police Force has not forgotten the sacrifices of your loved ones. These cheques are not compensation for their lives but a vital support system to help the families rebuild,” CP Azare told the beneficiaries, highlighting the ongoing commitment to both the police force and their fallen officers.
The families, visibly emotional during the presentation, expressed gratitude to the IGP and the Police Command, pledging to use the funds responsibly.
In a separate ceremony, the Police Commissioner also decorated officers recently elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
While congratulating them, Azare reminded the officers that promotion comes with greater responsibilities in both policing duties and honouring the memory of fallen officers.
“The reward for hard work is more work. I urge you to view this promotion as a call to higher responsibility, shun corruption, and remain dedicated to duty,” the Commissioner charged.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, DSP Nsikak Udedeh thanked the Inspector General and the Police Command for the honour, promising that the newly promoted officers would redouble their commitment to service.
The dual ceremonies, welfare disbursement and promotion exercise, underscore the police hierarchy’s efforts to boost morale within the ranks, while also sending a message to families of slain officers that their loved ones’ sacrifices will not be forgotten. This marks a continuing effort in honouring the sacrifices of police and recognising the fallen officers.
