The Headquarters 2 Brigade Nigerian Army Uyo on Friday scored 490 points to emerge overall winner of the 6 Division Nigerian Army 2023 inter-brigade officers combat proficiency competition.
The event, which was held at 6 Battalion Wellington Bassey Barracks Abak in Akwa Ibom state, The Tribune reports, was aimed at sharpening the skills of Nigerian Army Officers from basic abilities required to function optimally in the field.
A total of 69 officers drawn from 6 Division Garrison, 2 Brigade, 16 Brigade, and 63 Brigade, respectively, competed in Map Reading/point to point, Skill at Arms/ Firing, combat Swimming, 5 Kilometre Combat Race and Obstacle Crossing.
The 6 Division Garrison emerged second with 450 points, the 63 Brigade came third with 390 points, and the 16 Brigade took fourth position with 370 points.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division NA and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South South Operation Delta Safe, Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam said that the level of teamwork, determination, skills, and professionalism displayed by participants was excellent.
Abdussalam, who was represented by 6 Division Training Officer, Brig.-Gen MI Lawan, urged the participants to put what they have learned from the contest into their operational tasks.
“The level of teamwork, determination, skills, and professionalism displayed by participants is applauding.
I urge you to put what you have garnered from the contest into your daily operational tasks.
“Continue to train so as to develop the required capabilities in troops to handle every challenge thrown at you by the security dynamics,” he said.
The GOC urged other contestants not to despair but to work harder so as to ensure they perform better in future competitions.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of individuals, best formation, overall awards, and the presentation of souvenirs to participants.
