The George Akume Foundation has awarded scholarships and gifted educational materials to over 300 indigent students in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The event which took place at Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande LGA at the weekend under the convener, Mr Cosmos Nyagba sensitised the students on the danger inherent in drug abuse, cultism and other anti-social vices.
Nyagba said that the George Akume Foundation was initiated to assist the vulnerable in the society and added that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from indigenous learners and advised them to use the opportunity wisely to achieve their goals.
Nyagba explained that the vision of the GAF is to alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment among youths through employment programmes with a special focus on education, skills acquisition, healthcare delivery and provision of agricultural inputs among others.
In his remark, the North Central Coordinator of GAF, Austin Tyoyila, emphasised that the foundation which has links in all the six geo-political zones of the country, is committed to making life better life for all citizens.
He pointed out that Senator George Akume who has done so much in human capital development and national unity, is also determined to reduce the number of out of school children in Nigeria.
The North Central Coordinator also appreciated the Executive Director Housing, Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Dr. Mathias Terwase Byuan, for his humanitarian services as well as Chief David K. Iorhemba for his legal guidance.
A resource person, Mr. Ukeyima Desmond, who sensitized students and learners on drug abuse, cultism and other social vices, implored them to stay clear of bad company that will hinder their academic pursuit.
One of the beneficiaries, Bem Ngutor from the NKST Secondary School Adikpo, appreciated the gesture on behalf of all the beneficiaries.
