Apart from this, Mrs Akeredolu said no stone would be left unturned to ensure that all obstacles impeding the educational development of girl’s child in the state are tackled towards the realization of their full potentials in the society.
Akeredolu who stated this during the closing ceremony of the Ondo State girl child Information and Communication Technology Programme initiated by her office, said the programme was borne out of the need to empower the girl child in the use of ICT and to shrink the gender gap in the ICT sector.
She said the ICT programme for girls was geared towards solving societal challenges but said “close to my heart is addressing the problem of lack of teachers especially in rural schools and improving the standard of teaching and learning.
“With ICT, we can develop virtual classrooms all over Nigeria including the remotest villages you can imagine.”
According to her, all the 100 female students selected from 25 secondary schools across Ondo state have been selected to benefit from the girl child Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Programme.
The wife of the governor and the female students have been trained in ICT programmes and presented all the participants with a tablet loaded with WAEC and JAMB past questions.
Apart from this, She said the programme was sandwiched with awareness programme on breast cancer while the girls were also expose to be art of soap and bead making.
She said “this programme has helped to unlock the potentials in these girls and I believe these girls should be able to have impact on their immediate community. The knowledge they have acquired gives them the advantage to be key players in the global space.
The governor’s wife also encouraged parents never to give up on their children, stressing the need for women to take their rightful position in the scheme of things through commitment, hard work and passion for excellence.
She however called for more support from corporate bodies and individual within and outside the state to support her office to ensure the sustainability of the programme saying this will go a long way to help in solving some of the challenges facing the country.
Appreciating the wife of the state governor, one of the students Victoria Olarenwaju described the gesture as one the best thing happening to the state in recent time towards empowering the young girls on ICT and entrepreneurial skills.
