The Africa International Tourism and Economic Council (AITEC-World) is set to unveil one of the most strategic global initiatives that will shape the future of tourism and economic cooperation between Africa and the rest of the world.
The vice president, Communications and International Relations of the Council, Ambassador Kazeem Balogun, stated this during a media briefing held on at the Kapital Club and Apartment, Abuja.
Scheduled to hold at the Abuja Continental Hotel on Thursday, 14th August, 2025, Ambassador Balogun said the event is designed to link Africa to the world and the world to Africa, using tourism as a catalyst for shared economic development, cultural diplomacy, innovation, and sustainable partnerships.
“Our mission is to create a high-impact platform where tourism becomes more than leisure. It becomes a conduit for trade, investment, education, culture, innovation, peace, and human connection.
“AITEC-World is built to drive strategic bilateral and multilateral collaborations between Africa and the global community, offering practical solutions to economic challenges and unleashing the full potential of the tourism sector as a transformative industry in the world,” Ambassador Balogun said.
To achieve the aforementioned, Balogun said AITEC-World has come up with six foundational pillars which include among others: Integrating African and International Tourism; Driving of Investment and Economic Growth, Strengthening Africa’s and Global Tourism Brand which would be able to
elevate Africa’s rich heritage as well as foster inter-cultural dialogue across the world and attract global capital and facilitating investments in tourism, infrastructure, SMEs, and sustainable ventures across the world.
He added, “We hope our pillars will assist in harnessing technology and smart tourism tools to future-proof the industry and drive economic inclusion thereby engaging policymakers to create enabling environments and empowering tourism professionals through training and mentorship, as well as promoting tourism as a force for peace, conflict resolution, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth.
“Even though, we have our headquarters in Cotonou, Benin Republic and other regional offices in Lagos, London, Paris, Madrid and counting, the upcoming launch of AITEC-WORLD right here in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday, 14th August 2025, marks a historic milestone because Nigeria is a very strong country in tourism business, judging from it’s population in the world.
“This is not just a ceremony, it is the birth of a movement that seeks to reposition Africa as a global tourism and economic powerhouse. Tourism is no longer just about travel. It is about trade, talent, technology, tolerance, and transformation. It is about people and planet. It is about shared growth.
“We invite governments, private sector stakeholders, academia, youth, creatives, media, and all passionate change-makers to join this global family. This is your platform. This is your opportunity to be part of a bold and inclusive movement committed to changing narratives and building futures.”
According to Balogun, the other legs of the event will also hold in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 4th to 8th November 2025 and in London, United Kingdom from 4th to 6th November 2026.
