Following the insecurity challenges facing Benue state, Nigeria Air Force has promised to join in surveillance of Benue, to nip the insecurity challenge in the bud.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saadiq Baba Abubakar stated this yesterday when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state at his office in Makurdi.
The Chief of Air Staff noted that Benue is one of the flashpoints in the country that needs the attention of force men to ward off the activities of the criminal elements.
Abubakar said that the intention of the Air force men to intervene was in line with the directive of president Muhammadu Buhari who he said ordered adequate security in some ‘flashpoints’ in the country.
According to him, “We have come here to support Benue State and to see how we are going to key into the efforts of the state government to combat the security challenges confronting it.”
“The federal government has directed that adequate security be beefed up in some flashpoints in the country and Benue state is one of them, we are sending some of our air assets that will assist in air surveillance.”
Abubakar however admonished the people of the state to provide intelligence to his men to be able to succeed in the assignment.
The Air Marshal further hinted that the force intends to improve on its infrastructure at the Air force base, Makurdi such areas include; the secondary school, the Air force hospital and also to strengthen the Air War College already earmarked for Nigeria Air Force Base, Makurdi.
In his response, governor Ortom appreciated the efforts of Nigeria Military Force in their efforts to curtail the activities of insurgency in the North East and other parts of the country.
Ortom extended his appreciation to President Muhhamadu Buhari for his unwavering support for Nigeria military to protect lives and property and assured the Air Force boss of the state continuous support for efficient service delivery to Nigeria citizens.
