The Executive Chairman of Niger Foods Security System and Logistics Company Ltd, Sammy Adigun, has emphasised that the best way to leave a legacy in any government is to focus on agriculture as a catalyst to industrialisation.
The Chairman stated this on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly Minna, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji in his office at the Assembly Complex in Tunga, Minna
Adigun, while addressing the speaker and other honourable members, said that within 18 months of Niger Foods’ establishment, it has been able to bring in multinational and international investors to the state.
He stated further that it has improved mechanisation and support small holder farmers through its input and mechanisation finance scheme.
Adigun said previously, agriculture was promoted as a social program but with the coming of Niger Foods to the state, farming is becoming a more lucrative business and a youth friendly enterprise that will impart on people’s livelihood.
He reiterated that the visit to the honorable house is to seek collaboration and stakeholder involvement following the implementation of the N1.8 Trillion Dangote Rice project, Produce for Lagos Initiative and the 10 million ton per year AfricaRice collaboration.
The Niger Foods boss further explained the value chain improvements roadmap for other focal commodities of yam, sugar, shea nuts, soybean, maize and livestock.
He stressed that the task at hand is to immediately see to the onboarding of at least 100,000 small holder farmers; 25,000 SMEs and cooperatives; and at least 50 large scale commercial farm estates across the state. He implored the Hon Members to actively participate in this onboarding scheme.
Meanwhile, in his response, the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, commended the Niger Foods Chairman for carrying the legislators along, promising to ensure they participate actively and also mobilise all traditional and political leaders in the state to key into this life changing programs of Niger Foods.
The speaker also urged all members of the 10th assembly to embrace this initiative.
