The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in Zamfara State has organised a training workshop for 75 facilitators on second chance education in the state.
The Zamfara State Ministry of Education Science and Technology and AGILE, in collaboration with the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) and the Health Integrity of Women and Children Development Initiative (HIWOCODIN), are the organisers of the workshop.
The two-day training workshop, which was declared open on Sunday, focused on building skills in literacy, numeracy, vocational training, reproductive health, and digital literacy. It was held at the Zakkat and Endowment Board Conference Hall in Gusau, the state capital.
Declaring the workshop open, the Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, emphasised the need for girls to acquire education.
“Education is the pillar of development and was neglected by the previous administrations in the state, but Alhamdulillah, the present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has taken bold steps to reinvigorate the education sector; that was why he declared a state of emergency on education in the state,” he stated.
According to him, the state government has introduced second chance education to further uplift the standard of women in the state.
He advised the participants to be more serious, pay attention, and learn from the training to enhance the development of the community, state, and country at large.
Earlier, the Zamfara State AGILE project coordinator, Hajiya Saadatu Abdu Gusau, represented by Deputy Coordinator Dr Salisu Dalhatu, disclosed that 75 participants were drawn from the 14 local government areas in the state.
“We carefully selected 75 facilitators across the 14 local government areas who would now train 2,250 individuals on different skills in the state,” he mentioned.
