A World Bank-supported project, the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in Zamfara State, has embarked on project supervision of school constructions and renovations, urging the community to take ownership of the project.
Speaking shortly after the supervision, the Zamfara State AGILE Project Coordinator (SPC), Hajiya Saadatu Abdu Gusau, urged communities where construction and renovations are taking place to consider the project as their own, protect it, and utilise it for the benefit of their community.
The State Project Coordinator, represented by Deputy Coordinator Dr Salisu Dalhatu, explained that AGILE is a World Bank-supported project from the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Zamfara State Government, aimed at improving girls’ education.
According to him, the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) has embarked on project supervision of schools to ensure quality work is carried out based on the School Improvement Plan.
“The State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) embarks on supervision as their mandate to ensure compliance with the project specification. Based on the School Improvement Plan, each service provider was given the terms and conditions with a Bill of Quantities, which clearly states how the project should be carried out,” he stated.
He further explained that the State Project Implementation Unit must supervise and monitor the quality of work and project timeframe.
“The timeframe for completion of the project is important. The service providers were expected to finish within four weeks. We monitor to ensure timely and quality compliance and to ensure that the community where the project is being undertaken is satisfied with the project quality and ready to enrol their girls in school,” he mentioned.
Additionally, Component Lead 1.2 Renovations – QS Nasiru Mainasara Mada, stated that some technical service providers have complied with the specifications, while corrections were made to ensure others adhere to the project’s terms and conditions.
The Zamfara State AGILE Project Communications Officer, Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, further disclosed that AGILE has received massive support from all stakeholders in the state.
“On behalf of Project Coordinator Hajiya Saadatu Abdu Gusau, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Multi-Sectoral Donors Agency, we appreciate Governor Dauda Lawal for his support and for providing an enabling environment for the project. The Commissioner of Education, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and stakeholders—we appreciate you all. As I always say, AGILE is the people’s project,” he lauded.
