The Acting Chief Medical Director of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Professor Reuben Eifedeiyi, has vowed to make the teaching hospital number one in the treatment, management, and control of infectious diseases in the world.

Professor Eifediyi pledged while receiving an award of recognition from an Abuja-based social cultural organisation, Edo Sons and Daughters Progressive Union, in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, for his contribution to health care development in the country.

Eifediyi, who was honoured alongside the immediate past CMD of the hospital, Professor Sylvanus Okogbenin, said his vision for the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital was to make it the best in the handling of infectious diseases worldwide.

“ISTH is recognised worldwide as a centre of excellence in managing, treating, and controlling infectious diseases. My goal is to make it number one in the world. I will continue to give consistent and committed leadership”, he pledged.

As a way of promoting universal health coverage, he disclosed that he had already enrolled over 100 elderly people in the host community of Idumebo-Irrua in the Health Insurance Scheme,

The Acting CMD dedicated the award to the hospital staff, assuring that the award would spur him to be more committed to the service of mankind, just as he would continue to be proactive rather than reactive to the welfare of workers.

The immediate past Chief Medical Director of ISTH Professor Sylvanus Okogbenin, appreciated the Edo Sons and Daughter Progressive union for the award, pledging that he and his team would remain committed to the progress of Edo State.

Speaking on behalf of the president of Edo Sons and Daughters Progressive Union, Mr. Tony Okonigene remarked that the awards were given to the awardees because of their contributions to healthcare development in the country, urging them not to rest on their oars.
