In a bid to revitalise Nigeria’s aviation industry, Engineer Segun Adesanya, a seasoned aviator with over four decades of experience, has launched Santos Aviation, a company dedicated to providing aircraft interior engineering and maintenance services in Nigeria. Adesanya, had been with Delta Airline before he established Santos Aviation in the United States, is bringing his expertise to Nigeria, with a vision to transfer technology, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s economy.
The Ogun State born technocrat’s decision to invest in Nigeria’s aviation sector became a welcome development, considering the country’s potential in the industry.
With a growing demand for air travel and a need for modernisation of aviation infrastructure, Nigeria presents a vast opportunity for investors. To this end, the coming of Santos Aviation will tap into this potential, providing critical services that will enhance the efficiency and safety of aircraft operations in the Nigeria.
According to the aviation icon, “One of the key aspects of our plan in Santos Aviation, is technology transfer. We intend to hire and train Nigerians, rather than relying on expatriates, to work on aircraft maintenance and engineering.”
This approach, according to him, will not only create jobs but also equip Nigerians with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the aviation industry.
Adesanya’s commitment to technology transfer is evident in his partnership with a major airline in the country, where he plans to train employees and provide them with FAA certification.
According to him, “our company plans to partner with a polytechnic to train students on aviation programs, providing them with hands-on experience and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in the industry.”
This partnership, he said, will not only benefit the students but also the aviation industry as a whole, as it will provide a steady supply of skilled professionals.
The Ogun State government has shown interest in Adesanya’s project, with the state’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, expressing support for the initiative.
The government offered to provide a conducive environment for Santos Aviation to operate and has even proposed introducing aviation courses in its technical institutions to develop the skills of local students.

This collaboration between the government and the private sector is a step in the right direction, as it will help to develop the aviation industry in the state and create jobs for young Nigerians.
The lack of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Nigeria has been a significant challenge to the industry and Adesanya’s plan is to establish an MRO facility in Ogun State to help in addressing the challenge and provide a much-needed service to the aviation industry.
The facility is expected to be a tonic to the country’s economy since job creation will stimulate economic growth in the state.
According to a report by the Nigerian Aviation Sector Report, the country’s aviation industry is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, driven by increasing demand for air travel and the government’s efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure.
The report noted that the industry will require significant investment in infrastructure, including MRO facilities, to support its growth.
Adesanya’s initiative therefore, is also expected to contribute to the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria by providing training and capacity-building programmes for industry professionals.
By estimation, the aviation industry in Africa is expected to require over 220,000 new recruits by 2037 to meet the growing demand for air travel.
To align with this, there is need for the right climate for private investment in the aviation sector. Hence, Adesanya’s plan to address some of the present shortfall by providing a steady supply of skilled professionals to the industry is step in the right direction.
This initiative to launch Santos Aviation in Nigeria is a significant development in the country’s aviation industry. The initiative to embrace technology transfer, job creation, and partnership with local MROs and technical institutions are pointers to Adesanya’s dedication to developing the industry.
And with the support of the Ogun State government and other stakeholders, Santos Aviation is poised to make a significant impact on the aviation sector in Nigeria.
As the industry continues to grow and evolve, it is essential to have visionary leaders who are passionate about developing the sector and contributing to the country’s economy.
The success of Santos Aviation will not only benefit the aviation industry but also the Nigerian economy as a whole.
According to a report by the World Bank, the aviation industry contributes significantly to a country’s economy, supporting economic growth, trade, and tourism. Hence, investing in the Nigerian aviation industry this way, is immense contribution to the economic development and a sure help to create a more prosperous future for Nigerians.
Overall, this initiative to launch Santos Aviation in Nigeria is a welcome development that will transform the country’s aviation industry. And with his expertise, commitment to technology transfer, and partnership with local institutions, there is prospect for better days ahead,
It is expected that this initiative will make a significant impact on the industry and up the country’s economic growth.
