Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko, Oba John Olakunle Ojo, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to quickly address the challenges of hunger facing the country.
According to the top traditional ruler, the current hardships in the country required urgent measures to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians, especially those residing in the border communities.
Oba Ojo who made the request while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of Dardolips Information Global Technology, Damilare Abioro, in his palace at Idiroko, said border communities are facing multiple challenges at the same time.
The monarch listed the challenges to include border closure, ban on sale of petroleum product in the border communities.
He explained that though some of the measures being taken by the Federal government are to revive the country’s economic challenges, the hardships caused by the reforms must be addressed.
According to him, the president should listen to the groans of Nigerians and review some of the reforms currently being implemented by his administration in order to ease the suffering.
“I want to plead with Mr. President to consider the plights of Nigerians over the economic hardships in the country in order to bring the relief to them because everyone, including the government itself, is feeling the heat.
“We know that reforms will bring economic prosperity in the future but the government at all levels must quickly find the immediate solutions to the hardships in order to bring succor to Nigerians.
“For some of us at the border community, we can only plead with the federal government to consider re-opening of the borders, lift the ban on the sale of petrol in the border areas as we have to travel several miles before we can get a litre.
“Also we need more government presence, especially the implementation of several intervention projects they had promised us, as well as providing jobs opportunity for the Youths and addressing the incessant clashes among the smugglers and Customs officers while our youths should give the maximum supports to the government activities and policies” the monarch stated.
Oba Ojo, however, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, and other political stakeholders from the axis for different activities towards the development of the area.
Earlier, Abioro commended the traditional ruler for continued peaceful atmosphere and coexistence among the residents in the community and its environs.
He asked the monarch to continue to help and support the youths in the area.
