The Federal Government on Sunday provided relief materials to the victims of insurgency at Garkida in Gombi local government area of Adamawa State.
Presenting the relief materials to the Adamawa State governor, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sa’adiya Faruq, said these are food and non-food items brought by the Federal Government to the people of Garkida that were recently affected by the activities of Boko Haram insurgency.
“These are items that were brought after which we will sit with the State Emergency Management Agency to do the needs assessment on how we are going to move to see how to support the state government in other critical areas of social infrastructures.”
She mentioned that, on Monday morning, the Chairman, North East Development Commission together with the Managing Director, officials of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the State Emergency Management Agency would be moving to Garkida to deliver the items.
Responding, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State appreciated the effort to give the relief materials to the victims.

Governor Fintiri assured that the state government with the management of the North East Development Commission would take the relief materials to the affected people so that it will go round.
“Like I said earlier, we have a good synergy with the North East Development Commission to see how we can move in immediately to start reconstructing the affected infrastructure in the town of Garkida so that we can bring life to its status of the ancient town.”
The governor hoped that the NEDC will move to Garkida to take an assessment of its own area of needs so that it can reconstruct the affected properties to avoid unnecessary IDP camps which he said would become a social problem.
Major General Paul Tarfa retired, Chairman North East Development Commission thanked the Federal Government for providing relief materials immediately to the victims of insurgency at Garkida in Adamawa State.
Items brought include rice, beans, beans flour, Maggi, spaghetti, macaroni, vegetable oil, rubber mats and blankets.
