Activist warns against politicising amnesty scheme

Published by

Politicians in the Niger Delta region have been warned to steer clear and stop playing politics with the amnesty programme of the Federal Government for repentant militants in the region.

An activist in the region,  Opia Ojieh, gave the warning in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.

This was as he called on Nigerians, irrespective of tribe and ethnicity to support the Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty, General Paul Boroh (retd), to enhance the efficiency of the programme.

The activist said  amnesty was still helpful to the ex-militants in the region, warning that the programme should not be politicised.

He said the development signalled danger for the scheme that restored peace in the Niger Delta region.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to implement the programme to the letter, “even as we urged politicians to allow  General Boroh to do his work fairly without distractions.

“We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing  GeneralBoroh to head  the  amnesty programme And we call on our people to work together to ensure that the programme remains a success.”
