ACCI advocates low business cost to boost SMEs growth in Nigeria

ACCIABUJA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI),  during the weekend, called for the need for both government and the private sector to take necessary steps in ensuring a drastic reduction from the current high cost of doing business in Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja, the President of ACCI,  Adetokunbo Kayode explained that the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), is being threatened by high costs of doing business in Nigeria.
He said the situation was becoming worrisome due to the fact that government agencies are wrongly imposing taxes on companies before they make their profits.

According to him, “It is more shocking  that government at all level  continue to take up to 10-15 per cent as part of loans granted to SMEs in the name of consent fees, stamp duties, titles,  registration fees, filing fees at the Corporate affairs commission [CAC], while the banks also collect another 10 per cent or more through administrative charges and documentation costs’’.

He said, ‘’I will use this opportunity to also call on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board [JAMB], to stop overcharging poor Nigerians writing their test, all they need do is to refund their so-called profits to the poor parents of these students instead of paying the money to government, reduce  it’s fees because JAMB is a regulatory body, it’s not supposed to make profits” Kayode lamented.
