He abandoned me and our children 7yrs ago —Woman

A woman, Rofiat Akande, has sued for divorce at Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customay Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Rofiat has sought for divorce on accounts of neglect and abandonment by her husband, Musa Akande.

The plaintiff in her suit stated that her husband left home seven years ago when their last child was three months old.

According to her, he abandoned her and the children and frustrated every attempt at getting in touch with him.

She thus pleaded with the court to dissolve their union so that she could pick up her life again.

“I got married to my husband 17 years ago and our marriage is blessed with four children.

“Our marriage like any other marriage experienced its ups and downs, but I was determined to make it work.

“We had our last child seven years ago. My lord, my husband left home when this child was three months old and never came back.

“He deserted me and the children. All attempts to make him come back home failed.

“He refused to pick my calls and never bothered to know how our children and I had been surviving.

“The responsibility of feeding, clothing and educating the children automatically fell on me.

“The payment of house rent also became my duty.

“I later learnt he has taken a new wife and established a lucrative business for her.

“He suddenly showed up of recent and gave the children his address. The few times they went  to him to make their needs known to him, the most he gave them was N1,500, transport fare included.

“Till date he has never considered educating the children his responsibility.

“My lord, I want to be free from the bondage I am called marriage. I plead that the court separate us.

“I have also   played the role of breadwinner enough. I pray the court to wake my husband up to his responsibility as breadwinner and father, “the plaintiff concluded.

Musa told the court he no more derived pleasure staying married to his wife, he, therefore, acceded to divorce.

“She has a sweet tongue which makes people easily believe her words.

“I care not only for her and the children, but for her family members too.

Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved the union and granted the petitioner custody of their four children.

The defendant was ordered to pay the sum of N10, 000 monthly as their children’s feeding allowance and take responsibility of their education and health care.
