The present situation in Nigeria has taken a turn for the worse despite the high hopes we had at the beginning of this administration.
During Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, the exchange rate was a dollar to 196 naira. The prices of goods in the market were stable and the issue of insecurity was not as bad as it currently is. The major issue we had was that of the incessant attacks by Boko haram which was limited to a certain part of Nigeria.
During Muhammad Buhari’s administration, the prices of goods became high and electricity supply became worse. The rate of kidnapping, killing, insurgency also increased exponentially. The regime ended with scarcity of money that led to agitations for a change of government.
The advent of the present administration was filled with high hopes for a better Nigeria for all citizens. However, the situation of things in Nigeria has become worse than expected. There is a constant hike in the prices of goods. Imported goods have become so expensive that only the wealthy can afford them. Constant increase in the cost of production of domestic goods also makes it difficult for local entrepreneurs to survive.
The rising cost of fuel and electricity has also contributed to the higher price of goods and services. This is not what the people voted for. The people voted for a better Nigeria. A Nigeria that will be so beautiful that even those in diaspora will do all they can to come back home and be a part of.
We use this medium to implore the government to look into the matter and make decisions and policies that will reduce the level of poverty and make life easy for the citizens. We are calling on the government to find ways and measures to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria, empower the security architecture of the country and give room for community policing so that there will be more hands to tackle the issues of insecurity and insurgency in the country.
