Nutrition International and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOH&SW) have provided training to 40 Cross River healthcare workers on nutrition commodities logistics related to the Nigerian Health Logistic Management Information System (NHLMIS) at the state level.
During the opening of the two-day training session, funded by Nutrition International, the State Coordinator, Olajumoke Oladapo, mentioned that participants were selected from stakeholders in the state, logisticians, and DHIS focal persons in five local government areas in Cross River State: Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, and Odukpani.
Oladapo explained that prior to this training, only six health commodities were integrated into the NHLMIS, excluding nutrition. With this new training initiative, state and local government logistic personnel will soon be equipped to enter the necessary information on the NHLMIS platform.
“Cross River State is fortunate to be among the few states to initiate this training. After the completion of this training, nutrition commodities will be incorporated into the NHLMIS, serving as a tool to monitor these commodities and identify gaps related to expired or insufficient supplies, thereby eliminating stockouts.”
Dr Etim Ayi, the Permanent Secretary of CRSPHCDA, also addressed the participants and emphasised that the training’s success depended on the participants’ engagement.
According to Ayi, this training aims to prepare participants to become ambassadors in their facilities throughout the state. He appreciates the effort of Nutrition International in the state.
“This training is timely because, for some years, nutrition has been pushed aside. It is a very good thing that is happening to us here.
Adeoti Samuel from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare led a session that focused on practical techniques for entering nutrition data into the NHLMIS online platform.
He highlighted that the NHLMIS allows stakeholders at all levels to analyse essential data trends and supports inventory management decision-making processes.
