Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort and bleeding. They can occur inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids) or under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids).
Several factors can contribute to the development of hemorrhoids, including: Straining During Bowel Movements: Excessive straining puts pressure on the veins in the rectal area, leading to swelling and the formation of hemorrhoids.
Chronic Constipation or Diarrhea: Both conditions can cause repeated straining and irritation of the rectal veins, increasing the risk of hemorrhoids. Sitting for Long Periods: Prolonged sitting, especially on the toilet, can put additional pressure on the veins in the anus and rectum. Pregnancy: The increased pressure on the pelvic blood vessels from the growing uterus can lead to the development of hemorrhoids in pregnant women. Aging: As people age, the tissues supporting the veins in the rectum and anus can weaken, making them more susceptible to swelling. Low-Fiber Diet: A diet lacking in fiber can lead to constipation and the need for straining during bowel movements, which increases the risk of hemorrhoids.
Obesity: Excess body weight can increase pressure on the veins in the pelvic area, contributing to hemorrhoid development. Heavy Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting or activities that require straining can increase pressure on the rectal veins, leading to hemorrhoids.
