The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is set to unveil a new report addressing the global effects of heat stress on workers.
The comprehensive study examines the impact across various regions and sectors, including nations unfamiliar with extreme heat challenges.
Key highlights of the report include updated figures on the prevalence of heat-exposed workers worldwide, detailed regional analyses on the consequences of heat stress, economic assessments and suggestions for implementing effective workplace heat action plans.
The report and all related documents will remain under a strict embargo until July 25 at 18:30 CEST.
Meanwhile, a recent report has highlighted the accomplishments of the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions.
The Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions has gained significant traction, with 16 additional countries joining as pathfinders since its inception three years ago, as detailed in its inaugural progress report.
The report underscores robust participation from governments, social partners and civil society organisations, alongside steadfast support from development partners and international financial institutions.
Established in September 2021, the initiative aims to expedite progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on challenges such as poverty, income inequality, informal employment, global job deficits and insufficient social protection coverage.
The initiative’s mobilised resources, outlined in the report, will enable countries to develop and implement national roadmaps promoting decent work and universal social protection.
Already, 15 pathfinder countries stand to benefit from an initial funding commitment of $17.8 million.
The report also emphasises the Global Accelerator’s pivotal role in fostering collaboration among stakeholders, including government ministries, social partners, donors, development banks and UN agencies, to ensure cohesive policies and programmes and stimulate increased domestic and international investments.
Over the past three years, key achievements of the initiative include the establishment of the M-GA, a partnership between the United Nations and the World Bank and its recognition last year as one of the UN’s 12 high-impact initiatives for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global Accelerator Progress Report was presented during the third Global Accelerator Steering Group meeting on July 16.
