The management of Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc, organisers of the annual Maltina Teacher of The Year (MToY), has assured that despite the stormy economic weather, the company is not planning to discontinue with the annual ceremony which provides a platform to celebration the Nigerian teachers.
Giving the assurance in Lagos while flagging off this year’s edition of the competition, the 10th in the series, the company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs Sade Morgan, stated that though the company plans to do a review of the competition after the 10th edition expected to hold in October, such review would not translate to resting the award.
As a way of demonstrating the company’s commitment to go the whole hog with the competition, it had reviewed the cash prizes with the star prize winner going home with the sum of N10 million, which hitherto had been N6.5 million. While the first and second runners-up get the sums of N3 million and N2.5 million and other incentives, respectively.
She stated further that this year, the company will be partnering with four other brands: Union Bank, WoodHall Capital Foundation, FCMB and Alert Group to further enhance the competition.
One of the highlights of this year’s competition is a documentary, which will be in 10 series, to be run on paytv, DSTV, spotlighting the achievements of the competition, while taking a closer look at the nation’s educational system and development over the years.
The Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Hans Essaadi, represented by the Human Resource Director, NB Plc, Grace Omo-Lamai, explained that the flag-off of this year’s edition represents the beginning of another journey to appreciating and celebrating the tireless efforts and dedication of teachers.
Essaadi stated that the company, through the Felix-Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting teachers in shaping future leaders and changing the lives of students for the better in Nigeria.
