THE Catholic Lay Organisation, Serran International, has installed Serran Olusegun Anjorin as the 6th District Governor (DG) of Serra International, District 130-B Nigeria.
Anjorin, who took over from former District Governor, Serran Pius Tanimojo, was until his installation, president of the Serran Club of Ipaja.
Serran International formed in 1938, according to the church is a catholic lay organisation dedicated to fostering and promoting vocations to the ministerial priesthood and affirming vocations to the consecrated religious life.
Speaking at the District 130-B 11th convention, held at Ss. Michael, Raphael and Gabriel Catholic Church, Satellite Town, Lagos, Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Reverend Alfred Martins, who congratulated the new district governor, admonished Serrans to continue to be actively involved in supporting the missionary mandate of the Church and use their gifts to serve others as faithful stewards of God.
Archbishop Martins, who was represented by Chaplain, Serra Club of Lagos, Very Reverend Msgr. Patrick Obayomi, said the response of Serrans to the clarion call, presupposes the action of giving and going, noting that some people give to the mission by going while others go to the mission by giving.
Speaking on the theme for the convention, “Answering God’s call; embracing the mission”, the archbishop described it as timely considering the need for mission and support. Urging club members to continue to engage themselves with the mission mandate of Jesus Christ and ensure the process of formation of agents of evangelisation, so that the goal of the mission is achieved.
In his speech, the DG expressed happiness at the honour given to him and revealed that he intends to move the club forward in six key areas which include contributing to Serra International Foundation, education, spirituality, vocation discernment programme, enhancing communication, and membership growth and retention.
Anjorin also stressed the need to strengthen their support for activities that help young people to explore their vocations. The DG, who unveiled his new book, ‘Managing a Serra District: Your Compass to effective leadership’, said he wrote the book to guide and encourage, as well as enrich himself and those who will work with him.
The DG acknowledged the challenges facing the club, promising that he and his team will get members more interested in Serra activities, providing interesting articles and things that add to people’s knowledge, and draw others to the club.
He tasked the club executives to read about Serra to accomplish the task ahead of them and work hard to take it to a greater height. Anjorin reminded members that as Serrans they must be ready to submit their talent, treasure, and time to move the club forward.
