The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibadan branch and the University of Ibadan have agreed to collaborate on the development of engineering particularly in the area of internships for students.
This was the crux of the meeting between the two organisations when the Chairman, NSE, Ibadan branch, Mr Ibraheem Folarin Bello, led other executives and members of the branch on a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, in his office recently.
Speaking during the visit, Bello, noted that the NSE is seeking to explore opportunities for collaboration with the University of Ibadan to create synergy between the academia & industries by encouraging workable programmes BTW the engineers in academia and industries.
He further stated, “We want to also collaborate with the University of Ibadan in providing advisory services to the University on professional engineering matter TCN project and any other engineering consultant services when required for through the branch.
“The NSE, Ibadan branch is also willing to assist the university in the placement of students for their SIWES programme where they will get real practical experience of all what they learned in the class. We want to collaborate with the University on students’ special training on engineering software and the latest tools among others.”
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented during the meeting by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Professor, Ronke Bayero, said, “The University of Ibadan remains the best in Nigeria and we still want to do better. We do not only want our staff who are engineers to be comfortable on their job but also get training. Your members who are engineers should apply for scholarships and other grants in order for them to get upgraded in their chosen discipline.
“UI will be willing to organise programmes for our staff. We want well-rounded students, so we will be looking forward to a partnership with the NSE Ibadan in the area of placement for internships for our students. We want our students to compete favourably with their counterparts from around the world. We appreciate the NSE Ibadan branch for being willing to help our staff and students. We can work together to make the society better.“
