Solidarity Centre, CFTG train union leaders on deepening democracy

Labour leaders and civil society organisations in Nigeria have reiterated  commitment to advancing the principles of democracy, social justice and human rights throughout country.

The commitment was made at the end of a two-day leadership development workshop organised by Campaign for Transformative Governance (CFTG) and facilitated by Solidarity Centre for Trade Unions and Civil Society Organisations.

In a statement issued at the end of the event and signed by Comrade Jaye Gaskia, a co-convener of the CFTG, the participants agreed on the need to spearhead grassroots movements and drive meaningful progress at both the local and national levels.

The CFTG is a campaign anchored by trade union and pro labour Civil Society Organisation, TUC, AUPCTRE and FIWON.

According to the statement, the workshop provided a platform for robust discussions, interactive sessions and strategic planning, ensuring participants were well-equipped with valuable insights and practical skills essential for effecting positive change within their communities.

Gaskia noted in the statement that attendees at the event were enlightened and empowered through training sessions covering a diverse range of topics, including community mobilisation, digital rights, democracy and active citizen engagement.

The statement read, “The workshop culminated in a renewed sense of commitment and solidarity among all stakeholders, underscoring their shared vision for a more just, inclusive and participatory society.”
