THE Anfani, Imalefalafia, Ososami and Environs Muslim Community has commended the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakri Agbotomokekere, for the installation of the Arole Iba Oluyole, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi, as the new Baba’sale Musulumi of Ibadanland.
Agbotomokekere and his council turbaned Akanbi last Saturday at a ceremony held at the Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba, and attended by personalities, including the Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde.
Akanbi succeeds Alhaji Lateef Oyelade who held the title until his death on September 8, 2023.
In a statement signed by its secretary, Malam Azeez Idris, the Anfani, Imalefalafia, Ososami and Environs Muslim Community stated that Alhaji Akanbi, as a devout Muslim with a track record of service to Islam and humanity, was deserving of the honorary Islamic title and was capable of discharging the duties that come with it.
The statement reads in part: The new Baba’sale Musulumi of Ibadanland is a man of many parts. As a politician, his politics is grounded in the fear of God, welfarism and delivery of good governance to not only the people of Oyo State but all the peoples of Nigeria.
“The dedication of our father, the Arole Iba Oluyole, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi, to the advancement of Islam and development of its adherents cannot be overstated. We have no doubt that the honour done him with this prestigious title will encourage him to make his past developmental activities a tip of the iceberg.
“We are mindful of the fact that Ibadan is blessed with many Muslim sons of note who have been supporting Islam in many ways with their endowments. We, therefore, want to use this medium to commend the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakri Agbotomokekere, for deeming it fit to choose Alhaji Akanbi out of this lot.
“We beseech Almighty Allah to continue to bless Sheikh Agbotomokekere and grant Alhaji Akanbi the grace to use this position to further earn His pleasure as he looks to increase the tempo of his contributions to the cause of Islam and humanity.”
