Nigeria’s High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, SarafaTunji Isola, has harped on the need to promote human dignity as part of efforts to inspire hope for a more equitable world.
He stated this while speaking as a panelist during the UN Human Dignity Day Conference at Oxford, United Kingdom. Isola and other panelists spoke on “Civilisation Perspectives on Human Dignity for Everyone Everywhere.”
Isola pointed out that collaborative partnerships, policy advocacy, and leveraging technology are key drivers for positive change.
A statement issued by the commission on Saturday further noted that Isola’s experience in international relations and human rights advocacy enriched the discussion.
The statement further noted that Isola “emphasised the paramount importance of UN Human Dignity Day as a global observance to elevate human rights and foster cultures of dignity worldwide.
“His profound insights and commitment to promoting human dignity inspire hope for a more equitable world.”
At the event, Vice-Chair, Universal Peace Federation, United Kingdom, Mark Brann, shared insights on the link between peace and human dignity, emphasising the need for environments that uphold human rights and foster peaceful coexistence.
Executive Director, Leimena Institute, Indonesia, Matius Ho, also offered valuable perspectives on promoting human rights and dignity in diverse cultural contexts, emphasising cultural inclusivity and understanding.
In his remarks, Professor, University of Padua, Italy, Andrea Pin, delved into the legal dimensions of human dignity while advocating for robust legal frameworks to safeguard the rights and dignity of all individuals.
The Editor, South African, Yolanda Van DerVyver, on her part, provided a unique perspective on the intersection between art, culture, and human rights, emphasising the power of artistic expression in promoting awareness.
Visiting Associate Professor, Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, Ukraine, DmytroVovk, also shared insights on the importance of law and justice in upholding human dignity, advocating for human rights and accountability.
Senior Fellow, Religious Freedom Institute, Malaysia, Eugene Yapp, stressed the significance of respecting diverse religious and cultural identities.
