Zamfara: Normalcy returns after protest over detention of corps member

Normalcy has returned to Kaura Namoda town, the headquarters of Kaura Namoda Local Government of Zamfara State, after pandemonium broke out over the detention of a corps member.

The corps member was detained by the police for  allegedly molesting the daughter of a community leader  on Monday.
According to findings, the protesters besieged the major Kauran Namoda /Shinkafi road demanding for the immediate  released  of the corps member.
It was gathered that business activities came to a halt as shop owners as well as market women and traders locked  their shops.
Eyewitness told the TribuneOnline that the corps member, who was teaching in one of the private schools punished the daughter of one of the community leader, Alh Sahabi Kaura.
According to him, information got to the father of the girl and he got the corps member arrested and subsequently detained at the Kaura Namoda police station.
Piqued by this development, the teachers of the school, it was learnt decided not to teach until their colleague was released.
“The teachers came out with their placards and they were joined by youths and some people who were against the detention of the corps member,” a source further affirmed.
As of the time of filing this report, normalcy had returned to the town and people were said to have opened their shops.
Reacting to the incident, the police image maker, DSP, Shehu Mohammed, said the corps member has been released by the order of the Commissioner of Police.
He said even the father of the girl had apologised to the school authorities and the community.
