NIMN to adopt electronic voting at 2019 Conference

The umbrella body of marketing practitioners in the country, the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has disclosed that the institute’s  presidential election,   scheduled for Port Harcourt, in  May, this year,  will be conducted, electronically.

This, the institute added, is part of the reforms the incumbent governing council of the institute had quietly embarked upon since coming on board, few years ago.

Speaking at a press briefing to announce the institute’s forthcoming Annual Marketing Conference, Dinner/Awards Night and Annual General Meeting, its President and Chairman of Council,  Mr. Tony Agenmonmen explained that such electoral reforms had become imperative to make the institute globally competitive and value-adding.

The NIMN boss added that the planned electronic voting would afford over 2,000 financially active members of the marketing institute, spread across the globe,  the opportunity to be part of the decision of choosing the next set of leadership of the institute.

According to him, the institute’s presidential election would be part of this year’s edition of the institute’s annual marketing event tagged  ‘Marketing Nigeria’s Non-Oil Sector for Sustainable Growth and Development’.

He described the conference’s theme as part of the institute’s concerted and deliberate efforts at marketing the nation’s non-oil sector of the economy.

‘’The choice of the theme is informed by the institute’s belief that concerted and deliberate efforts at marketing Nigeria’s non-oil sector will diversify the economy and make it less vulnerable to fluctuations in crude oil prices’’, he added.

Besides the choice of Mr. Segun Adeniyi, the Chairman Editorial Board, ThisDay Newspapers, as the keynote speaker at the event, the NIMN boss added that experts, from various sectors of the nation’s economy would feature as members of the panel that would discuss the day’s topic.

Some members of the panel, he stated, include: Professor John Otaigbe of the Department of Chemistry, University of Port Harcourt; Mr. Femi Awoyemi, Chief Executive, Proshare Nigeria Limited and Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, Director General, Nigeria Export Promotion Council.

Agenmonmen, who will be seeking re-election at the Conference, would also be presenting his scorecard in the past two years at the AGM.
