Customs to begin auction of seized petrol at N630 per litre

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has directed that seized petrol in Adamawa be auctioned at N630 per litre.

Speaking during a press briefing in Yola, Adamawa State, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Adeniyi, represented by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Aliyu Alajogun, revealed that “Operation Whirlwind” has made significant strides in curbing fuel smuggling.

The operation led to the interception of two lorries, 1,046 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and 12 drums of petroleum products.

Adeniyi also announced that the seized fuel would be immediately auctioned at two designated petrol stations in Yola, priced at N630 per litre.

“Our ongoing operations have recorded substantial seizures in various locations, including the North-West borders in the Sokoto-Kebbi axis, the South-West borders around the Seme-Badagry and Idiroko axis, and the southern borders in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states,” he stated.

Highlighting the recent achievements, he said, “I am pleased to announce that in this latest phase of Operation Whirlwind, we have seized two lorries carrying smuggled petroleum products, 1,046 kegs filled with PMS, and 12 drums of petroleum products.

“Additionally, one suspect has been apprehended in connection with these smuggling activities,”

Adeniyi stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance and warned those involved in smuggling that strict legal actions would follow.

He called on residents of Adamawa and other border states to support the ongoing efforts, emphasizing that their cooperation is vital to safeguarding national resources and ensuring that the benefits of fuel price deregulation are fully realized across the country.
