No fewer than 700 secondary school students in Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area have benefited from a free summer coaching programme organised by the council chairman, Hon. Kehinde Akande.
Speaking at the grand finale of the programme, held at United Missionary School (UMC), Molete, Ibadan, Akande commended the Oyo State Government for its ongoing efforts to improve education across the state.
A statement by the council’s Head of Information Unit, Oyekunbi Adediran, noted that the chairman expressed delight at the continuity of the programme, which also included awards for outstanding students to encourage academic excellence.
Recalling that the initiative began last year, Akande reiterated his commitment to making the summer coaching an annual event, aimed at providing quality education and additional learning opportunities for students in the local government area.

In addition, Akande announced that the best students from the programme would be given free forms for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC).
The Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Alhaja Salau Olatoyosi, commended the chairman for the laudable initiative and urged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies in order to continue enjoying such opportunities.
Beyond academics, the programme also featured skills acquisition training, including liquid soap making, designed to empower students and ease the financial burden on parents.
The colourful event was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Adeniyi Adigun; Leader of the House, Hon. Adewale Adelodun; councillors; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Sunday Adebanjo; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Alhaji Abolaji Hazzan; supervisory councillors; special assistants; Education Secretary, Mrs. Morenike Adeniran; as well as directors, deputies, and unit heads of the local government.
