…unveils institute’s HR Leadership Academy
The President, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, has stressed the need for constant re-skilling among HR professionals in the country, noting that a sizable 70 per cent of organisations in Nigeria are beginning to give continuous learning the utmost attention it deserves.
The CIPM boss stated this on Tuesday, at the launch of the institute’s HR Leadership Academy, and the logo, in Lagos.
Gobir believed it has become imperative for professionals to continue to re-skill and upscale, since the workplace, he noted, is presently evolving, leaving every skill a maximum of five-year shelf life.
He, therefore, stated that for practitioners to remain relevant, they must cultivate the habit of learning, relearning and unlearning.
The CIPM boss explained that the institute’s decision to launch the Academy stemmed from the need to equip today’s HR practitioners and leaders with the capacity to manage people in a constantly evolving world.
He described the Academy as a platform deliberately designed to provide evidence-based learning for HR leaders, decision-makers, and people managers.
According to him, one of the distinguishing factors of the Academy would be its blend of local realities with global best practices.
“We are planting a seed that will keep growing for generations to come. We are not just unveiling an initiative, we are preparing to shape the future, the future where continuous learning is no longer a phrase, but a heartbeat of people management in Nigeria, and across Africa.
“The success of our profession depends on how we embrace long-life learning. The idea of the Academy was not borne out of the desire to tick a box, nor created to score points, but borne out of deep reflection, a careful planning, and a recognition of a gap that must be filled,” he stated.
The institute’s Vice President and Chairman of the Academy’s Advisory Board, Chidinma Justina Obiejezi, described the Academy as a movement, designed to elevate HR professionals at every stage of their careers.
She expressed the belief that the Academy would serve as a launchpad for cutting-edge menu, strategic upscaling and the evolution for HR as a transformative force in Nigeria and beyond.
“We are creating a future where HR leaders are not just administrators of policies, but architects of culture, champions of innovations, and custodians of organisational excellence,” she added.
Commending the institute’s leadership on the initiative, the event’s Chairman, and a Past President of the Institute, Mr. Victor Eburajolo, believed the Academy has demonstrated visionary leadership by creating a beacon of knowledge and excellence, through the introduction of the Academy, for HR professionals.
In his keynote address, another past president of the institute, Dr. Abiola Popoola, commended the institute for introducing the Academy, insisting practitioners, desirous of attaining excellence, must be ready to first acquire knowledge, which the Academy is designed to offer.
He, however, called on the Board of the Academy to ensure that its resource persons are top-notch so as further to enhance the brand equity of the personnel management institute.
