All is set for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to commence its 61st-anniversary celebrations with a nationwide Open Day event, inviting Nigerians to visit its bases across the country from 1 to 15 May 2025.
According to a statement made available to defence correspondents in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations and Information for the service, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the event, themed “Come See Your Air Force,” aims to foster stronger civil-military relations and offer the public a unique opportunity to witness the inner workings of the NAF.
The statement explained that the Open Day events would serve as a key component of the broader anniversary celebrations, which will officially take place from 13 to 20 May 2025.
The events will feature guided tours of facilities, close-up inspections of aircraft and platforms, historical exhibitions, interactive sessions with NAF personnel, documentary screenings, and souvenir distribution.
Additionally, the celebrations will be hosted in 17 NAF units across the country, including Makurdi, Bauchi, Yenagoa, Kaduna, Enugu, Ikeja, Katsina, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, Osogbo, Minna, the Federal Capital Territory, Victoria Island, Yola, Benin, Kainji, Kano, and Jos.
Each unit will open its gates to civilians from all walks of life on specific days, which will be announced individually by the respective units.
The Open Day events will include:

Emphasising the significance of the initiative, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, highlighted the importance of public trust and engagement.
“This Open Day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service. We invite all Nigerians to come, see, and connect with their Air Force,” he stated.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its dedication to strengthening its relationship with the public through openness, education, and inspiration.
