500 vigilante join forces with the army to fight Boko Haram insurgents

Governor Kashim Shettima has mobilized about five hundred vigilante members to fight along soldiers in the ongoing war against insurgency in Borno State.

Swearing the red dressed members with the Koran and Bible in the government house Wednesday evening, the governor warned that he will not tolerate any of them leaking sensitive information about operations to the enemy.

Governor Shettima assured the newly recruited members that he will give them all the support needed to make them overcome the enemy in the war theater.

He urged them to work with the Garrison Commander Brigadier General Mike Alechenu who is the Garrison commander and who will control and command all their operations in the state.

He warned that whoever revealed the plan of the operation will be judged by the Koran or the Bible they swore to adding that he will give them ten operational vehicles for them to work with.

Responding to questions from newsmen, civilian leader of the vigilante and Commissioner of Justice Kaka Shehu said the fighters were brought on board the theater for the sake of synergy and to help out to end the war.

He said that the vigilante will work side by side of the civilian JTF and other military and para military agencies to support the military fighting to put an end to the atrocities of Boko Haram.

Some of the vigilante who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune thanked the governor for giving them the opportunity to fight and if need be, undergo the supreme sacrifice for their fatherland where necessary.

Present at the occasion were the Commissioner of police Damian Chukwu, director of State service DSS and representatives of state service and other paramilitary agencies.
