A five-member gang of suspected car snatchers has been arrested by the Nigeria Police (B’ Division), in Warri, Delta State.
Tribune online gathered that the suspects specialised in snatching cars from their owners at gunpoint in Warri and environs.
Names of the suspects were given as Ifunaya Amadike, Otite Efemena, Ochuko Ejiata, Oteme Ogbemigeye, and Ojdyewe Oghenetaga.
They were apprehended by police operatives led by Mr Eyoh Anietie, a superintendent of police on June 20, 2018, at the popular Bendel Estate, near Warri.
Tribune online gathered from a credible police source that one of the suspects, Amadike who was alleged to have been under the influence of drugs, died on June 23, at an undisclosed hospital in Warri.
The source explained that the suspects snatched a Toyota Highlander Jeep late evening of June 18 at Ugborikoko axis of Warri.
According to the source, the suspect’s “abandoned the jeep at Eboh road when the vehicle stopped due to the anti-theft security device installed on it and quickly snatched a black Toyota Corolla car.
“On their way to Ajamimogha, the car also failed and they snatched a Honda Pilot jeep and were later intercepted in the night by vigilance members before where they ran and abandoned the jeep.
“Army uniforms and guns were recovered from them when they were arrested.”
The Honda Pilot and the Toyota Corolla cars had been recovered while efforts were ongoing to recover the Highlander, the source added.
He said that the suspects had confessed and admitted to the crime, noting that Oghenetega, one of them, confessed to having purchased a Delta State government vehicle plate number at a cost of N100, 000.00.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SAP Andrew Aniamaka, did not respond to calls to his mobile phone as of the time of filing the report.
