4,000 households in 3 communities to enjoy solar in Kaduna

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state

Arrangement has been concluded to connect at least 4,000 households in three communities in Kaduna State with solar.

This was disclosed by the state commissioner for Rural and Community development, Hajiya Balarabe Aliyu Inuwa during an interactive session with journalists as part of activities to mark the second anniversary of the state government under the leadership of Mallam Nasir eL-Rufai.

Inuwa remarked that already a Memoranda of Understanding has been signed with a French firm for the setting up of a solar assembly plant.

According to her, three communities of  Unguwar Wahala in Kajuru Local government and Banki in Kubau local government as well as  Unguwar Marwa in Jama’a local government areas would be connected to solar as part of the agreement.

“At least 4,000 households in all the three communities will enjoy solar. We pick these communities because they lack basic infrastructure and amenities.

She said the French firm had agreed to provide 1million dollar to connect one of the community, while the state government would connect the remaining two communities.

According to her, the project is a pilot scheme that would enable the government connect more rural areas if this particular project succeeds.

Commenting further, she said plans are on the way to establish the state co-operative commission, saying that, a committee has been set up to work out the modalities.

“We are now engaging different co-operative societies and talking to them on how best to go about their activities.”
