Thirty vulnerable women living with HIV/AIDS in Delta State have been empowered with N50000 each by the state government.
The grants, according to the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, were meant to provide economic support and boost their businesses.
Princess Ajudua, at the presentation of the grants and transport fares to the beneficiaries at Professor Choke Edozien, state Secretariat in Asaba reiterated the resolve of the state government to alleviate the suffering of women, especially those affected with HIV/AIDS by ensuring that they receive the necessary psychosocial, health and financial support from the government
The commissioner lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife, Deaconess Tobore for not only being gender friendly, but for their unwavering commitment, compassion and dedication to uplifting the most vulnerable members of society.
She further appreciated other relevant stakeholders for their continued active collaboration with the ministry in achieving smooth implementation of policies that will improve humanity and create a society that is equitable and supportive of all regardless of status and gender.
The Executive Secretary of the State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA), Dr Hudson Rudolf, in his goodwill message commended the ministry for being the pacesetter in the state for looking out for vulnerable women of such nature, wishing others to emulate the gesture.
Mrs. Blessing Ugorie who gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated God, the governor and the ministry for being selected in this year’s empowerment programme.
