Three men — Seun Ogunmakinwa, David Adeleye and Yemi Adefabi — were on Thursday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly belonging to a cult — `Aiye’ confraternity.
The accused — Ogunmakinwa 29; Adeleye 26; and Adefabi, 30 — whose addresses were unknown, were standing trial for belonging to an unlawful society.
According to Prosecutor Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused assembled and engaged in activities similar to cult members on June 29 at about 9.00 p. m. at Oju-Ore in Ota.
The offence, he noted, contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The trio pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the men jointly filed an oral application for their bails which was not objected to by the prosecutor.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Adelaja, admitted them to bails in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government, she added.
Further hearing in the case has been fixed for August 9.
