3 die, one injured as building collapses, truck crushes motorcyclist in Lagos

Two people died while one person was injured as a building collapsed in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

A commercial motorcyclist was also, on Thursday morning, crushed to death by a truck driver on Daleko Bridge along Isolo Road in Mushin area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred when the motorcyclist, one Biliaminu Olayiwola, was trying to make a  U-turn in front of Daleko  market .

On the Lekki incident, Metro gathered that a storey building under construction caved in on masons and labourers working at the site.

Two of the workers reportedly died while one Yakubu was injured when a part of the building under construction caved in.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu, confirmed both incidents to Metro.

The LASEMA boss, while speaking on the Lekki building collapse, said: “The agency received a report at about 11.40 am today, Thursday 27th April, 2017 regarding partial collapse building at Nicon town Estate, Admiralty way, Lekki.

“Two adult male named Tasiu and Abdulahi were reportedly dead, while an adult male named Yakub sustained some injuries and had been taken to the hospital.”

“The agency’s Emergency Response Team had immediately cordoned off the building for further investigation to be carried out by the appropriate authorities.

The LASEMA boss, while speaking on the Daleko incident, said: “The agency received a distress call at about 9.19 am on Thursday concerning an accident at Daleko Bridge inward Isolo.”

“Investigation conducted by the agency’s ERT on getting to the scene of the incident revealed that a bike man was crushed by a trailer while trying to make a u-turn.

“The driver of the trailer fled immediately the accident occurred but was later apprehended by policemen and taken to Olosan police station, Mushin.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the bike, identified as Biliaminu Olayiwola, lost his life due to the incident. His remains were recovered by the LASEMA Response Team and handed over to the police.”

Tiamiyu advised motorists and bike riders to always ensure utmost safety while on the highway to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
