28th convocation: 192 LASU graduates bag first-class honours

Lagos State University (LASU) has announced that 192 students have graduated with first-class honours in its 28th Convocation ceremony.

The convocation, which will take place between April 3 and April 10, 2025, was formally introduced by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, at a pre-convocation press conference held at the university’s main campus in Ojo on Thursday.

The Vice-Chancellor revealed that a total of 8,711 students completed their first-degree programmes, while 2,235 postgraduate students are set to receive their degrees.

According to her, apart from the 192 first-class students, 3,076 students earned Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 graduated with Second Class Lower Division, 990 will be awarded Third Class, and 39 will receive a pass. Also, 17 students graduated with unclassified MBBS and BDS degrees.

Among the 2,235 postgraduate students, 302 obtained Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 earned Academic Master’s degrees, 639 received Professional Master’s degrees, 125 were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 obtained Professional Doctoral degrees.

The university also announced that it would confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, in recognition of their contributions to the university and the nation.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department, who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93, is the best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session.

She further stated that 971 students completed diploma programmes, with 123 earning distinctions, 550 obtaining upper credits, 287 receiving lower credits, and 11 finishing with a pass.

She said partly, “Among the 8,711 students graduating with first degree programmes from the University, 192 came out with First Class honours and 17 with Unclassified(MBBS/BDS) Degrees, 3076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class and 39 with a pass.”
