FOR allegedly vandalising a transformer of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), a 23-years-old man Mallam Umaru Mohammed has been docked before a Benin Magistrate court.
Mohammed and his alleged partners still at large were accused of vandalizing the transformer on June 29, 2018, around Ogbe-Ibuya quarters of Benin and stole copper wires valued at N330,000, according to the Police Prosecutor, Mr David Akigbe.
Mohammed who was arraigned on two counts charge before Magistrate V. E. Oyekpen led to court, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the change, the offence is contrary to section 516 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap Vol. II of the defunct Bendel State laws as applicable in Edo.
Counsel to the accused, Mr P. A. Ugheoke, applied for a bail, after noting that the offence was a bailable one.

He also applied for a proof of the evidence to be made available at the next adjourned date.
While acceding to the two applications, the magistrate, however, said the bail is in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety of like sum.
Also, the accused and surety must be attached to a passport photograph each with telephone numbers and also national identification card which number must be verified by the court.
The magistrate adjourned the case to July 31.
