The Sokoto State Government has challenged opposition politicians seeking to govern the state in 2027 to present their records of service and achievements rather than rely on allegations and social media claims.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Strategic Communication, Nura Mahe, stated this on Sunday while addressing newsmen in Sokoto.

Mahe said the political debate ahead of the 2027 governorship election should be centred on verifiable achievements, measurable results and accountability.

According to him, the administration had invested in employment and human capital development, including the recruitment of 3,000 workers into the state civil service.

He also cited the approval of 2,440 Community Health Workers for deployment across the state’s 244 wards, the graduation and deployment of 1,550 Sokoto Marshals and the establishment of the Sokoto Community Guard Corps among the administration’s interventions. The 2,440 health workers were approved for deployment across the 244 wards in 2025, according to the state government.

“These are not figures we are asking anybody to imagine. They are figures that can be checked,” Mahe said.

He added, “And that is the point of this press conference. 2027 must be about records.”

The governor’s aide challenged all aspirants seeking the support of Sokoto voters to account for their previous responsibilities and achievements.

“Before asking the people of Sokoto for their votes, every aspirant should be prepared to answer: How many jobs have you created? How many people have you empowered? How many institutions have you built? What have you done with the responsibility entrusted to you in the past?” he said.

Mahe said Governor Aliyu’s experience in public service predated his election as governor, noting that he had served as a commissioner, deputy governor and pioneer Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.

He said the experience had informed the administration’s focus on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, employment, youth and women empowerment and infrastructure.

Addressing opposition politicians, including those aligning with the African Democratic Congress, Mahe said, “Come with your record. Not rumours. Not political mathematics. Not social-media slogans. Your record.”

He urged them to tell the people what they had achieved, where they achieved it and how many people benefited from their programmes.

“Governor Ahmad Aliyu will present his record. The opposition will present theirs. Let the people put the records side by side,” Mahe said.

He added, “Because in 2027, the question should not simply be: ‘Who wants to govern Sokoto?’ The more important question is: ‘Who has shown us what they can do?’”
