The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun to identify potential presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections, listing several of its governors as highly qualified to fly the party’s flag.

This was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, while speaking with reporters in Abuja on Wednesday about preparations for the upcoming National Elective Convention.

According to Ologunagba, the PDP is not only an “attractive platform” but also has a roster of “capable and performing governors” who could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He specifically mentioned Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Diri Douye of Bayelsa State as being qualified to become the next president of Nigeria.

This announcement comes as the PDP gears up for its National Elective Convention, which is scheduled to be held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

The PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) recently held its 100th meeting, where it confirmed the dates and location for the convention.

The NEC had also reportedly decided to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, which is seen as a move that could favour Governor Makinde.

Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP is the “next natural alternative to the APC” and that Nigerians desire a return to the party’s previous era of governance.

“We are ready for our national convention. The party remains the rallying point for Nigerians. They can see that we are open to discussions. We are coming out stronger,” he stated.

He warned that “anti-party activities will no longer be condoned, by whatever name or shape it is called” and called on members to “obey the constitution and abide by it.”

The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions, including a recent dispute over its national secretary and the date of its NEC meeting, which have prompted the call for greater party unity and adherence to its constitutional rules.
