…salutes Oyo workers
A leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has called for unity within the party, backing the intervention of its PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) following recent internal challenges.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ajadi described the BoT’s assumption of leadership as a “defining constitutional intervention” aimed at restoring stability after a recent Supreme Court judgment triggered a leadership dispute within the party.
He said the move was necessary to prevent a leadership vacuum and reposition the PDP for peace, unity and electoral competitiveness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the current situation presents an opportunity for stakeholders to set aside personal and factional interests in favour of reconciliation.
“I sincerely congratulate all members of our great party at this critical moment. The decision of the Board of Trustees to assume constitutional leadership is not only timely but necessary to stabilise the party and restore confidence among members nationwide,” Ajadi said.
He urged aggrieved stakeholders to respect the BoT’s position and support its plan to convene an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, expected to pave the way for an interim National Working Committee to guide the party through a renewed process of unity and restructuring.
Ajadi stressed that the immediate priority for the PDP should be the emergence of a credible structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), capable of fielding candidates in all elective positions in 2027.
“What matters now is unity of purpose. The BoT must be fully supported to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including constituting the NEC and an interim National Working Committee to ensure compliance with electoral requirements,” he added.
He also appealed to party leaders, governors, lawmakers, youth and women wings, as well as state chapters, to rally behind the reconciliation process.
“The PDP belongs to all of us. This is the time to sheathe swords, embrace dialogue and rebuild trust. Only a united PDP can win and govern effectively in 2027,” Ajadi said.
In a separate statement marking International Workers’ Day, Ajadi congratulated civil servants in Oyo State, describing them as the engine room of development.
He pledged to sustain and improve workers’ welfare if elected governor, promising to build on the labour-friendly policies of Seyi Makinde.
Ajadi commended Makinde for maintaining cordial relations with workers, particularly the regular payment of salaries and pensions.
“I celebrate our workers on this special occasion and commend their immense contributions to national development. Their welfare will remain a top priority,” he said.
He acknowledged the economic challenges facing workers, assuring that a PDP-led government would implement policies aimed at improving their living conditions.
Ajadi added that, if elected in 2027, he would sustain and enhance existing welfare programmes introduced by the Makinde administration.
